Newborn to 4 Months
👀
Visual Tracking
- Hold your face or a high-contrast card 8–12 inches from baby’s face.
- Move it slowly side to side or up and down, letting baby’s eyes follow.
- Try a mobile or contrasted object during calm, awake moments.
- Narrate it: “Here it goes… over here!”
📚
Read Books
- Read board books, high-contrast books, or nursery rhymes — or just narrate your day.
- Baby benefits from your voice and rhythm, even without visible “listening.”
- Point to pictures and vary your tone.
🤸
Tummy Time
- Start with short, frequent, supervised sessions.
- Try it on your chest, your lap, or a firm floor.
- Get to eye level — talk, sing, or add a visually interesting object.
- Increase time gradually as baby gets more comfortable.
🗣️
Talk, Sing & Imitate
- Respond to coos and facial expressions.
- Pause after speaking — give baby a “turn” to respond.
- Sing, make gentle silly faces, imitate their sounds.
✋
Gentle Sensory & Movement Play
- Let baby explore your finger, a soft cloth, or safe textures.
- Gently bicycle their legs or move their arms during calm, alert time.
- Offer supervised reaching toward a lightweight toy as interest grows.

Simple Routines
Newborns don’t need a strict schedule — just predictable patterns, like:
- Feed → cuddle/play → diaper → rest
- Bath → pajamas → feed → book/song → sleep
Repetition helps babies learn what comes next.
Most important: follow your baby’s cues. If baby turns away, fusses, or seems tired, stop or simplify. A few minutes of warm, responsive interaction throughout the day matters more than long stretches of “teaching.”
